Most indications from those who might know is "lots."
Bob Groves who interviewed Smith in July 1962, a couple months before Smith died, and then was interviewed on tape said, "He was constantly visited by Canadian government officials as well as American government officials who of course were upper echelon people with attaché cases that were chained and locked to make sure none of the information would drop of be left behind in a bus station or something. He had a number of these visits. They had samples they wanted him to analyze - hardware and metal that had been found."
Groves continued, "According to Smith let me cite this, ‘In 1952 we had a noteworthy or a notorious sight over Washington DC. During this time an Air Force jet shot a piece right off a UFO. It was found two hours later. It had a glow to it - a white glow to it - after two weeks it had diminished to a brown texture. The part that was shot off was about as big as could be held in a couple of hands. It had a very distinct edge. It was curved. It had tapering sides so that it appeared that it had been shot off the edge of a double saucer shape. The typical shape.’"
Groves again. "According to Smith the united states military intelligence has tons of hardware. They readily admitted this to Smith upon interview by Smith when he was the director of the research project (Project magnet 1950-1954). Smith also stated they had much film."
Various samples
One portion of aluminum as hard as quartz. It could only be broken for analysis by grinding. Yet composition seemed similar to standard kitchen pots
52 Piece
There is some confusion at this point whether or not there was one or two pieces involved. One piece we know for sure was recovered by Commander Alvin Moore an intelligence officer with the CIA. It was transported back to Wilbert Smith along with a sample of angel hair.
Vice-Admiral Knowles described the piece Smith showed him as,
To the best of my recollection the object was shot down by a plane and was seen to fall in the yard of a farmer across the river in Virginia. Upon searching the area several pieces were found, one of which was turned over to Mr. Smith for independent research. On one of his trips down to see me he brought the piece along for inspection.
It was a chunk of amorphous metal-like structure brownish in color were broken, with a curved edge indicating the whole thing to have been not over 2' in diameter. The edge was rounded in cross section, perhaps a quarter inch think and obviously swelled to a considerably greater thickness at the center. The outer surface was smooth but not polished, and at the broken sections there were obviously iron particles and even some evidence of iron rust. I would say that the weigh was somewhat lighter that if of solid iron, but it was not ‘extremely light.’
Mr. Smith told me that a chemical test had been made of the piece at hand, that iron had been found in it but little if anything else could be identified.

St. Lawrence Slabs
Nothing really resolved except that the stuff was pretty strange. Found way up on the rocky shore of the river. (3000lbs) and (800lbs)
1960. Was about 3,000 lbs. It suddenly appeared on the shore of the St. Laurence river. Composed of high strength manganese steel, fabricated in layers of .01 to point .8 inches think and according to Smith, " it looked like the whole had been subject to impact as it fell on a hard surface with very high velocity. The flat, (presumably the top) surface was embedded with myriads of particles tentatively identified as micrometeorites. Analysis showed it to contain known elements but such as we do not normally use in steels.
Analyzed for at least 10 years after Smith died by the Ottawa Flying Saucer Club.
1) At one time was subjected to a great deal of heat
2) it under went severe impact 3) the metal had a low magnetic nature 4) no traces of Aluminum, calcium and copper usually found in manganese.
According to a letter written by Wilbert:
Art Bridge took it and has been working on it for the past two weeks. His first try was like mine, to cut off a piece on the power saw. All that happened was a shower of sparks and saw teeth! He eventually had to use a tungsten wire saw and abrade off some samples. He got a Friend in Mines and Technical Surveys to make a spectroscopic analysis of the sample and got the verdict that it was Magnesium Ferrite. Now this material is a purely artificial product made with some considerable effort, and does NOT occur free in nature to the best of your knowledge, nor is it a "byproduct." The only use for it that I can find is in missile nose cones and rocket motor linings, as it is reasonably resistant to ablation.
A close inspection of the surface shows the inclusion of large numbers of very small particles, most of which seem to be light metal silicates. The density of these particles ( on the outer surface only) is about 30 per square centimeter. Dr. Peter Millman advises that micrometeorites of this size would occur through a sq. cm. Section at about 10'6 second so it would take about a year to accumulate such a density.
Roswell
In 1987 after the MJ-12 documents broke, I sent a copy of the documents to Smith’s metals man. I also sent a copy of some of the Sarbacher material such as the interview that had been done with Smith, and the letter to Bill Steinman.
Even thought this man trusted no one, and hated using a phone, he phoned me. Usually the rule was he would simply phone and tell me to come out. Almost the first comment he made was in reference to the material I had sent related to the Roswell metal. "I’ll tell you flat out Grant. I analyzed a piece that was ‘pulled off’ that new Mexico thing. I know that thing was analyzed. It was a super light material."
]]>Firstly, on the issue of signaling UFOs with flashlights, I stand as a testimonial, and will argue with anyone anytime or place that this is a legitimate pursuit. I, and a hundred witnesses I can call to testify, will confirm that UFOs are very responsive to lights. While investigating in the UFO flap in Manitoba for 18 months we had many occasions to test such theories.
On the more important concept of contacts between humans and aliens which Wilbert spent a great deal of his life pursuing, people should note a couple of points before they begin throwing stones.
Firstly, the goal of many of UFO researchers is the confirmation of the reality of the extraterrestrial presence on earth. Calls of “Give us alien bodies, hardware, crashed flying saucers and statistical reports based on sighting reports,” are often heard.
There is nothing wrong with this noble goal, but it is only part of the overall UFO reality. Establishing the reality of the extraterrestrial phenomena goes almost nowhere in explaining what has been happening since 1947, and why.
For people who make that claim that physical evidence such as hardware and bodies should be our only consideration in our UFO studies, I present to them the same question that Dr. Eric Walker (former President of Penn State University, and a man who knew exactly what the government’s knowledge of the phenomena was) asked us in response to our constant demands to help us prove the UFO reality.
“When you finally get the answer (the proof) what will you do with it?” he demanded to know. He had made a valid point, but one that took this author 15 years to figure out. Walker’s question was simple - If you get a body or crashed flying saucer what is your next step be? What will you do once you have established the reality of the phenomena?
Wilbert Smith was in the position of having had the answer to question concerning the reality of the phenomena. He had been shown a crashed flying saucer in Washington, D.C. He had been shown the bodies. He had handled piles of mysterious hardware. He had handled all the sighting reports coming into the government for 12 years. He knew the reality of the flying saucers and their extraterrestrial occupants.
Yet he described his position as frustrating. Smith further realized that he was now at a dead end in uncovering the key questions of where visitors were from, why they are here, and what they have planned for our future.
Smith further stated that high government officials were in the same dilemma he was in. Despite their collections of hardware and bodies they too were at a dead end in the search for an answer to the UFO phenomena.
Consider for example the case of what Dr. Robert Sarbacher said when asked a question that went beyond the reality of the phenomena. Asked by Wilbert Smith where they came from Dr. Sarbacher stated, “We don’t know. All we know is we didn’t build them.”
Consider what Smith wrote in the Top Secret memo. “Their modus operandi is unknown but concentrated effort is being made by a small group headed by Doctor Vannevar Bush.”
The American officials that Smith talked to had bodies and crafts, but they could answer none of the question about where they were from and why they were here.
Smith wrote that the reaction to the dead end situation the government found themselves in, was that nothing more that could be done, and that they should do nothing. Smith explained it this way.
“Fact is when certain government people came face to face with the reality of the space people, and realized there wasn’t anything they could do about it, they promptly closed their eyes and hoped the whole thing would go away!
Dr. Eric Walker, who was at one time a high government official, expressed the same “dead end” evaluation of the situation. “You are up against the windmills. Leave it alone, there’s nothing you can do about it,” he told us on a number of occasions. “Study something else. Leave it alone.”
The “dead end” conclusions reached by the government were true in as far as the government had taken the evidence. Bodies and hardware do nothing but establish the reality of the situation, and they do nothing to explain anything else. With a body we know the phenomena is real, but to evolve our knowledge of the phenomena we must take another step.
Smith clearly understood that these physical reality items were of no use in explaining what the phenomenon was about, and he is right. “It might as well be in the 4th dimension for what its worth” he once said of recovered crashed flying saucers.”
If you have an alien body, what does that tell you about who they are, or why they are here? It tells you nothing. All it does is prove the reality of the phenomena, and little else. So what is the answer?
As much as it might hurt to admit it, until we talk to the aliens, we will never understand why they are here, where they are from, and what the nature of the phenomena truly is.
After receiving the proof for himself, Smith knew that contact with the occupants of the craft was the next step. Smith had been shown a crashed flying saucer at an air base outside of Washington D.C. He had been shown the bodies. He had handled piles of mysterious hardware sent to him by U.S. officials. He had handled every UFO report to come into the Canadian government for 12 years. He knew the reality.
Discussions with U.S. officials would not help, as all they had was bodies, crafts, and sighting reports which would tell them little about the true nature and intent of the phenomena. They didn’t know what was going on either.
Smith had faced Walker’s question, “Once you get the answer, what will you do with it?” In his answer to the question, he decided putting his head in the sand was not an option. For Smith it was either try and talk to the people flying the crafts, or make Ufology a hobby to see how many reports, bodies, crafts, and hardware pieces he could collect.
Smith took the logical next step to Walker’s question of “When you finally get the answer, what will you do with it.” Smith moved to trying to find out why the aliens were here, where they were from, and what we could learn from them.
Let me make a point to illustrate this. I will bet the farm on the fact that one of the key reasons that the government is withholding the UFO story from the public centers on what they don’t know and more specifically what they don’t know about abductions.
If the President were to stand up and say, “UFOs are real, and they are extraterrestrial,” I can guarantee that one of the first questions that would come his way from the press corps would be, “Mr. President. There are estimates that these aliens have possibly abducted millions of people. What are you doing to stop this?
So what does the President say? He can say nothing. Not only does he not know how to stop it, he does not even understand what they are doing. So how does he as Commander-in-Chief find out?
Does he go to Area 51 and get a body, a downed craft, or a piece of hardware? What will those items do to help provide an answer? They do nothing to provide an answer. They simply, once again, confirm the reality of the situation. Sighting reports will not even prove the reality. They will simply describe the phenomena. Not until someone talks to an alien will he find out what they are doing. Not until someone negotiates with an alien will the abduction phenomena stop.
Smith worked hard to find a scientific way to evaluate and create aliens contacts. He stated that when contacts were finally made with the aliens, only then did the answers to what was actually going on start to come. It was the key to his research after that, and he was absolutely right in what he did. It is an undeniable statement that a live alien will provide many more answers than a dead one.
People may question the quality of alien messages, and it is a valid concern. It is however a problem of inadequate information, or poor evaluation techniques. That, however, is not the problem of the contactee who we have chosen to kick in the head. It is the problem of the researchers who have not spent the time to set up appropriate protocols to deal with collecting contact evidence.
One must simply find a way to get reliable messages from aliens, as I will guarantee the government has tried to do from day one. Another key thing is to evaluate what has gone wrong in obtaining messages. Some researchers such as James Deardorff have already begun this process. More is needed.
At one time we had poor quality ships that rarely made it across the ocean. As with alien messages is no reason to stop building new and better ships.
Smith continued his whole career to build a ship to achieve the task of talking to the aliens, and he was fully justified in doing so.
]]>November 25, 1955 was one of the days in Wilbert Smith's life that shows just how weird things were in the Ottawa household.
In correspondence with Harry Gesner Wilbert was advising him on what evidence to bring back from his trip to Mars. Gesner was part of a contactee group who were being told they were going to be taken on a trip to Mars. There are many letters to Smith dealing with this.
The always open minded Smith writes back on the 25th stating what he should bring back, (based on discussions with the inner circle members) primarily 16mm taken at one frame per minute. He advises Gesner on how to adjust the focal length for what he believes will be time distortions which will cause the pictures to be blurry like some of Adamski's. He also advises him to look for a material called "mabonite."
"If you can produce evidence which I think is sound," smith ends the letter, "I shall have no hesitancy in putting it before the real top brass in Canada, but it has to be good!"
On the same day Smith writes letters to both Mr. Stewart and contactee George Hunt Williamson referring to a simplified gravimeter built by inner circle member Don Stedman (later forced out of the group by the government) and installed in his home. "It is quite interesting," wrote Smith as there have been a couple of time field surges during the last month. Also when the Russians let off the Big Blast, there was a gravity wave so strong that it broke the delicate quartz spring in the instrument! If the yanks set off some bigger ones I fear for the consequences. People just don't know about these things."
Smith believed that these blasts were responsible for the areas of reduced binding that were popping up all over the place, and causing planes to crash. Smith designed a detector for these areas, and wrote an official letter to the Canadian government about his concerns over the nuclear tests.
I check of this time period against the record of Russian tests shows that Smith was very accurate about what the Russians were doing based on this instrument in his home.
Records I obtained at the Eisenhower library show that the CIA had informed General Goodpaster of the Eisenhower White House about a Soviet Nuclear explosion on November 6, 1955. The Big Blast referred to by Smith was probably the Russian test of November 22, 1955.
Records show that it was an air test at the Semipalatinsk Test Site (Kazakhstan). It was a 1600 kt. yield weapon classed as weapons development or modification. Records further state that it was "the first Soviet test of a radiation implosion bomb, the highest yield test at STS."
]]>The current interest in flying saucers dates from the Kenneth Arnold sight in 1947. At the time the gentlemen of the press seized upon the item and it was featured far and wide throughout the world, with far more emphasis on its news value than its significance. This was followed by reports of many more sightings and a style was set. Soon everyone was stylist and on the band wagon; jokes and cartoons were created and published and the whole matter lost what little perspective it had and arrived at the public consciousness completely out of context and misrepresented. Consequently, it became practically impossible for a casual enquirer to sort out the facts from the fictions, legends and speculations which mushroomed up and became the "literature" of the subject. After foundering a while in the morass most people just gave up and relied for their opinions on some authority.
To most people the government is the final authority, but they seldom realize that government is made up of a large number of people who are experts in their own fields, but very much laymen in other fields. If, within government, there is no bureau within which a new situation will fit neatly, it is entirely homeless unless and until a suitable bureau can be created. But the creation of a government bureau requires a definite act by the government, and the voting and expenditure of public funds, which in turn has to be justified publicly. Consequently, when a situation develops such as the advent of flying saucers, it is unfair to expect an early answer from government. The best that a government can do under such circumstances is to make use of a "back door" arrangement with which we are all familiar, namely, the "classified project." But even this is a gamble in that it is predicated on the project yielding positive results with the answers all tied up in a neat little bundle, otherwise the project flops and slips into oblivion.
The United states tried this latter approach but it backfired, through a unique series of circumstances which I shall try to outline. Although I was in no way involved with the United States flying saucer investigations, I do know how these projects work and how they fit into the overall structure, so I feel my analysis is valid.
Any project starts out with its initial directive or terms of reference from which it evolves its strategy and then works out suitable tactics. Since flying saucers were obviously in the domain of the Air Force, and the vast publicity accorded them resulted in a deluge of inquiries and demand for an explanation of what was going on in the skies, the obvious course was for the air force to set up a project with a directive to look at this new situation and try to get them off the hook. With this sort of directive the strategy was of course to gather actual sighting data and then rationalize it as far as possible. Since it was obviously convenient to classify the project, the tactics at once developed into a one way pipe line, with all sorts of information going in, and nothing coming out. This of course made many people unhappy and suspicious, which fact was seized upon, publicized, magnified, and built up into a sinister plot to keep the public in ignorance.
Within the Air Force, as in any other large established organization, Parkinson’s law has been at work for some time and we find lots of chiefs but not to many Indians. Every job, large or small, is invariably delegated through many levels of responsibility until it finally arrives at the low man on the totem pole who does the work. Consequently, the only people who are entirely familiar with the job is the low man on the totem pole and his supervisor.
From time to time progress reports are prepared and started along their long and tedious way up the ladder, and since each successive level is progressively more remote from the actual work, each level strikes out of the report those references which to him seem inappropriate, and a t long last a thoroughly emasculated version arrives at the desk of the individual who started the whole thing off in the first place. If any information on the subject is to be released it is almost invariably based on this mutilated version and not on the work as actually done at the working level.
This situation is further aggravated by the fact that personnel at the various levels have a habit of changing and successive reports receive different treatment, so that the corresponding "edited" versions arriving at the top level are often are often inconsistent and contradictory. In the case of the flying saucer projects we have seen all these factors at work with a vengeance.
The question may well, and probably will be asked, Are the top brass unaware of the situation, and if they know about it why don’t they fix it? The answer is very simple; they do know, but to fix it would mean by-passing of the hierarchy and the destruction of a highly satisfactory system. The system breaks down only when it tries to cope with an entirely alien situation, which happens rarely, otherwise it works effectively and efficiently. The trouble is that the flying saucer situation is definitely alien.
It may be well to remember that initially there may have been some legitimate fear of the saucers, but this fear did not last long. It soon became apparent that these objects did not constitute any particular menace to humanity and there was practically nothing which could be done about it if they did. They came and went as they pleased with little or no apparent concern whether we saw them or not. They were in complete control and we were merely casual observers. Consequently, to the Air Force, since they constituted no apparent threat to national security, they were reduced to a mere nuisance value, and that nuisance was to be rid of the whole thing. But there was no one else to carry the ball and the air force stuck with it.
Unfortunately, since the classified projects were largely aimed at "explaining away" these things, a certain position had to be taken by the Air Force, and having just painted themselves into a corner, now must wait until the paint dries. What solid information tat did come out of these projects was most disturbing indeed, striking at the very root of our conventional science. But there wasn’t enough of this information on which to base any substantial reform in scientific thinking; just enough to produce an uneasy feeling that all is not well. So naturally, the least said about it the better, until more was known. One can’t just come out and say that the velocity of light is not a universal constant, or that Newton’s laws don’t always work, or that gravity isn’t the primary force after all.
Officialdom is fidgeting in their chairs hoping for some sort of scientific, mathematical or experimental breakthrough which will tie together the loose ends and explain away the whole flying saucer business without having to go beyond the bounds of conventional science. In other words the status quo is more important than new knowledge. Meanwhile, since they do not have enough answers for the questions which are now being raised, they most certainly aren’t going to invite a deluge of further questions admitting anything.
There is one more facet that I would like to deal with. Many people have wondered why the politicians have not picked up the ball, but the answer lies in the concert of politics itself. Politicians have two interests in life; first to win an election, and second, to do as good a job as possible of representing their constituency. Neither of these could be considered as embracing flying saucer investigations. True, a member of the house may ask questions about flying saucers, suggest that something might be done about their study, or even introduce a bill to take definite action, but without strong public support the result is only so much more wordage in the official record. Furthermore, because of the type of publicity from which the whole flying saucer subject has suffered, politicians who are naturally very sensitive to public reaction, are reluctant to stick their necks out.
In light of the foregoing reasoning I feel that we need not expect any significant statement with respect to flying saucers by any government agency. The nearest we can come to getting an official statement is from a few sincere researchers in the government service who, themselves, are satisfied of their findings and willing to risk the censure of their colleagues and the prestige of their positions. More often than not these people must wait until they retire from the government service before they feel free to make any statement at all.
In conclusion I would like to draw an analogy with the story of a man who was accused in court of stealing chickens. The farmer, his son and the hired man had all testified that they had seen the man steal the chickens, but when the judge asked him what he had to say for himself he just grinned and said, "Sir, I can produce twice as many people what didn’t see me steal those chickens!" I am afraid that this is typical of the thinking of many people.
]]>Unfortunately, this is typical of much of the thinking with respect to flying saucers. Healthy scepticism is good, but this kind of scepticism is ridiculous. Non-awareness is NOT synonymous with non-existence, and disbelief in something does not in any way detract from its reality. No one can create a fact by making a statement, and no one can get rid of a fact by denying it.
Statistically many more people have seen flying saucers than have seen atomic bombs, but the bomb information comes gilded with authority while the flying saucer information comes draped in scepticism. We do not ordinarily think to question on the basic facts upon which the information is based, but form our opinions more on the way in which the information comes to us. We live our daily lives so very much under the shadow of Authority that we instinctively attribute to Authority an omniscience, which it really does not possess, and take the easier way of succumbing to its dictates than thinking for ourselves. A fact is nonetheless a fact through having been stated by a seedy waterfront character or suave diplomat or international reputation. It is we, and we alone, who must decide for ourselves what is or is not a fact; and we are responsible to ourselves for that decision.
“Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good.” No one can prove without investigation, and investigation takes time and effort; often more than we are prepared to put forth. If we are not prepared to make the necessary effort to carry out an adequate investigation, are we really entitled to have our opinions taken seriously? In the absence of personal investigation, it is tempting and easy to accept Authority for Proof, but we are really fooling ourselves when we do this, since we can never really KNOW. Better that we should keep an open mind, and seize on the individual facts as they come drifting by, until we have enough to justify an opinion which is really our own.
]]>The program consisted of two parts. The first part was the collecting of as much high quality data as possible, analyzing it, and where possible drawing conclusions from it. The second part consisted of a systematic questioning of all our basic concepts in the hopes of turning up a discrepancy, which might prove to be the key to a new technology.
Unfortunately, the program was plagued by well meaning journalists who were looking for spectacular copy which could be turned to a political account, to such an extent that both those who were working on the project and the department of Transport found themselves in an embarrassed position. Consequently, when the Project Magnet report was made and permission sought to extend the scope of the investigation through federal support, the decision was finally made in 1954 that this would not be advisable in the face of the publicity from which the whole project had suffered.
Project Magnet was officially dropped from the Department of Transport in 1954, although the Department indicated its willingness to permit the continued use of laboratory facilities, provided that this could be done at no cost to the public treasury. The project continued under these conditions, and to this extent may be said to have gone underground. The government of Canada was therefore not participant in the continuation of the project and not in any way responsible for it’s conclusions.
The conclusions reached by Project Magnet and contained in its official report were based on rigid statistical analysis of sightings and were as follows:
The conclusion based on studies of the basic physical concepts were as follows:
Project Magnet activities dealt with the following up on any and all leads. Many of these leads were dead ends, but a few were quite significant and well worth the overall effort. At the present time a definite pattern is emerging, and the groundwork is being laid for a new technology which might literally lead us to the stars.
]]>
August 8, 1954 started out as a rather typical day at Project Magnet. Since the project had started it was hoped that the instruments on hand would sooner or later pick up an unidentified flying object and track and analyze its movements.
For months I and my tiny group of likeminded associates had watched the sensitive gravimeter in vain. On occasions when large commercial airlines would pass over, our hearts would skip a beat, as the instruments would register aerial activities.
But on August 8 at 3:01 P.M. the gravimeter began acting strangely. First it waved, drawing a thin dark line on the graph paper being used to measure the movements of the instruments. Without further warning the gravimeter went wild. All evidence indicated that a real unidentified flying object had flown within feet of the station.
Alarm systems connected to the instrument panel began to ring, alerting us to the UFO. After watching the instruments a few seconds, we ran outside to see what was causing the odd reaction.
Unfortunately our area was completely fogged in, and whatever was up there could not be seen visually.
]]>We consider the race of Man to be native to this planet and to have evolved here from lower life forms. We look upon our present civilization with pride and realize that we have accomplished much, particularly in the last few centuries. Even in the past few decades we have made tremendous progress in certain directions. Therefore, it is only natural that we should be egotistical about our position in the Universe. But are we alone? Are there not others in the universe who, also, have progressed? The Universe is very large and has been here a long time.
In the past few years we have taken our first faltering steps out into the vastness of space, first through the Sputniks and now through manned space flight. There is no doubt that we can do it, and we can restrain from blowing ourselves to glory with atomic bombs, we most certainly will do it. In the light of our present technology, and not allowing for any basic new discoveries, out timetable calls for interplanetary space travel well before the year 2,000 and a good possibility of inter-stellar trips being initiated shortly thereafter.
Our space travel plans include exploration, exploitation, and colonization, of other planets, so far as this might be possible, and there is no doubt that this thinking will be extended to the planets attached to other stars as soon as we can arrange to get there. Mankind has always been an adventurous creature, exploring, conquering, colonizing, and exploiting, and there is little reason to think that his future actions will be much different from those in his past.
Our large telescopes indicate low order perturbations in the positions of several of the inner stars, such as should be accounted for by the presence of large planets, and if there are large ones there will probably be smaller ones also. In fact, it is generally agreed now that the planets attached to the stars are more probably the rule than the exception, and that we will eventually find the heavens filled with all sorts of primary and secondary bodies.
When we consider the extent, the age, and the opportunity of the Universe, and the fact that we do have intelligent life here on this planet, it is only reasonable to speculate that somewhere else in the vastness of space and the eternity of time, other intelligent life could have blossomed forth. Since we have such rapid progress towards space travel in such a short time, a differential of only a few hundred or at the most a few thousand years between the development on some other planet and ours could easily have resulted in a race capable of doing right now what we plane to do in the future. Furthermore, it is quite possible that such a race may have reached this critical point eons ago, and to them space travel is as commonplace as the wheeled vehicle is to us.
Now, if this should be the case, and this alien race were anything like us, they would probably set forth to explore and colonize as rapidly as their means would permit. It is rather obvious that, even with the speeds of travel available to us, it would be much quicker to colonize the Universe than to wait for Nature to evolve separate races in each and every favorable environment. In fact, intelligent races might even set about accelerating environmental conditions to their liking, seeding and stocking planets with appropriate life forms, and watching over them as they develop.
The foregoing is not just idle speculation, since we have a great deal of evidence that something like this is actually happening. The Darwinian theory of evolution shows certain relationships between the various forms, which inhabit this planet, but there is very little evidence to indicate that they all evolved here. Maybe some of them did, but a more reasonable explanation is that they were brought here when the planet was in a suitable condition to receive them. Recent spectroscopic observations of the reflected light from Mars show the presence of vegetation, which synthesizes sugar, thus making it closely related to much terrestrial vegetation. Radio telescopes are picking up all sorts of radio noises from the sky, many of which are so systematic as to preclude natural origin. Peculiar markings, light flashes, and cloud and dust formations have been seen on Mars and our moon. And, most significant of all, the craft of these alien beings have been seen near, and on, this earth!
Legends and history abound in stories of visits to this earth by beings from the sky; beings which came in strange crafts capable of the most extraordinary performance, and who themselves possessed greats powers, or had at their command strange forces, and much beyond the understanding of the simple folk who witnessed those things. There is much evidence that this has gone on all through the ages, and is going on right now. With exceptional new gathering and disseminating means at our disposal, very little happens in the world which is not reported, and, if it is of sufficient interest, gets wide publicity. During the last ten years or more there has been much publicity about “Flying Saucers” and thousands of reports have been made of sightings of these strange objects in our skies. But this is not an exclusively recent phenomena; only publicity is recent. Ever since we have had newspapers there have been similar reports, but the absence of news services until recent times usually confirmed the details to a few local papers, and searches of old newspapers files confirm that flying saucers are old stuff.
The tense international situation in recent years has made everyone jittery, and anything in the skies that could not be established as known and friendly, was regarded with suspicion. Consequently, procedures, projects, and publicity combined to make the whole subject of flying saucers appear quite out of perspective. Instead of recognizing them for what they probably were, they became a ward of the Military, and since the Military are charged only with the defense of a country, their interests waned when they established the fact that the saucers apparently were not hostile. But in order to arrive at this conclusion they collected much data, classified it, and buried it so effectively that no one else could get at it, and those who might have been able to sort the matter out found themselves deprived of the basic data and had to contend themselves with the bit which escaped the clutches of the Military. However, on the basis of this material some rather startling conclusions have been reached.
Thousands of people have seen lights and apparently solid objects in the sky that behaved as no light or object normally seen in the sky ought to behave. Thousands have seen these objects under circumstances, which enabled them to say definitely what they were not, even though they were not able to say what they were. Reliable photographs and movies have been taken, and bits of “hardware” collected which cannot be explained away without challenging the integrity of a great many cases, and there is quite a bit of evidence of physical contact with these strange craft.
In several instances reliable people have reported seeing the beings who ride about on these crafts, and they say they look just like us. There are quite a number of reported contacts between these people from “elsewhere” and people of this earth, and although this letter point may be hard to prove it is equally hard to prove it is equally hard to disprove, and the results of these contacts are remarkably consistent and enlightening. At the present time there are quite a number of books, magazines, and bulletins devoted to the study of flying saucers, and anyone who wishes to establish for himself the validity of these things will find no dearth of material.
At this point we may summarize the position somewhat as follows. There is virtually no doubt that alien craft are visiting this earth, and that the beings who operate them are very much like us, probably our distant relatives. Considering the age and extent of the Universe, it is reasonable that space travel, exploration, and colonization, may be quite commonplace among races of mankind more advanced than we are. Information obtained through alleged “contacts” confirm the general nature of the picture as presented herewith, together with quite a bit of interesting side-lighting on the technology, customs, way-of-life, and philosophy of these people from “elsewhere.” It would appear that we are well along the way to becoming truly civilized, and if we can refrain from committing racial suicide and learn to respect the dignity, divinity and brotherhood of man, we can expect eventually to be welcomed into the great cosmic fraternity of advanced races that inhabit the regions beyond the limits of this little planet.
]]>If we are to rely on sighting data alone we are bound to get a one-sided idea of these creatures. For example, we see saucers traveling at terrific speeds and then suddenly stop or change direction. Under our concepts of physics no creature of flesh, blood and bone could withstand the tremendous forces, which would be associated with such actions. Therefore, we are likely to assume that the Saucerians must either be some manner of robot or a creature the like of which we have never encountered.
If Tables Reversed
Again, it is hard to understand why any race of creatures having the tremendous power at their disposal which we see demonstrated by the saucers, should be content to fly rather aimlessly over the globe, without doing something more definite. If the tables were reversed, we would most certainly would. After a brief reconnaissance we would land and announce to the natives that we are taking over. The fact that the saucerians have made no such move appears to indicate that they must regard us in the same general category as the other flora and fauna native to this planet, and to them our civilization is co primitive as to be indistinguishable from that of the lower animals and insects.
We could go on speculating in this manner for quite a while without coming anywhere near the truth. Fortunately the people who come from elsewhere in the flying saucers seem fit to make contact with people of earth, and to impart such information and understanding as the contact were capable of assimilating or passing along to others. There have been many published instances of contacts with these people from elsewhere and people of this earth, and a very great more that have not been published. As is the case in any new and romantic field, there are those who exaggerate, but it is not too difficult to establish that the vast majority are honest and authentic, For instance, when a dozen or so independent contacts having no common connection, and each believing that he or she has been favored above all others to receive this message, all tell the same message, even to the names and descriptions which tally perfected, one has little choice but to believe that they are telling the truth.
Magnificent Philosophy
Furthermore, when the material given to us through the many channels is all assembled and analyzed, it adds up top a complete and elegant philosophy which makes our efforts sound like the beating of jungle drums. The people tell us of a magnificent Cosmic Plan, or which we are part, which transcends the lifetime of a single person or a nation, or a civilization, or even a planet or a solar system. We are not merely told that there is something beyond our immediate experience; we are told what it is, why it is, and our relation there-to. Many of our most vexing problems are solved with a few words; at least we are told of them if we have the understanding and fortitude to apply them. We are told of the inadequacies of our science and we have been given the basic grounding for a new science, which is at once simpler and yet more embracing than the mathematical monstrosity, which we have conjured up. We have been told of a way of life, which is utopian beyond our dreams, and the means of obtaining it. Can it be that such a self-consistent, magnificent philosophy is the figment of the imaginations of a number of misguided morons? I do not think so.
If the only evidence we had was philosophical, we might justifiably suspect it, but when coupled with the reality of the observations, thousands of them, we cannot dismiss it so easily. This is especially true when we consider that the science that has been passed to us from the people from elsewhere explains in a manner which we have been quite unable to do why the saucer behave as they do, and how it is that they can do things which to us are virtually impossible. The science and performance check perfectly.
Again, we have been told where our scientific ideas are wrong, or inadequate, and experiments have been suggested and carried out, and in every case the alien science has been vindicated.
You cannot Make Him Drink
We may ask, if all this is known, why has it not been publicized? Why are these matters not being studied instead of atomic bombs? The answer: it has been published. Books have been written and hundreds of thousands of copies sold. There are available many periodicals containing this material, which may be had for quite a nominal sum. Reports have been prepared by serious investigators and presented “through proper channels.” It is truly said that one can lead a horse to water but one cannot make him drink! Those who are in control of our society are satisfied with it the way it is and resist any attempt to change anything, which is likely to disturb the equanimity of their lives. There are those who can’t be bothered to get the facts and make up their own minds. They would rather dismiss the whole matter as nonsense, because someone who holds their respect says it is nonsense. There are those who fear for their social security, and will therefore have no part in anything, which might place it in jeopardy. There are those who say our science works, and gives us things that we would not otherwise have. What is wrong with that? Why discard it? There are probably as many private reasons for not facing up to the facts, as there are people who refuse to do so. However, it is consoling to realize that, through the humble and often criticized comic strip and science fiction stories, the younger generation is being conditioned to accept the reality of people from elsewhere, and when given the opportunity to do so avidly assimilate all they can get on flying saucers and the people who fly them.
The Future
The question may well be asked, what of the future? This question has been posed many times, and to the people from outside. The answer; we don’t know for sure but are aware of trends. We ourselves are also aware of trends, but considering our limited means for gathering data we must of necessity do a vastly inferior job of predicting events. Our experience has been that when they choose to do so, the people from outside can be quite accurate in their predictions.
We may summarize the entire flying saucer picture as follows. We have arrived at a time in our development when we must make a final choice between right and wrong. The people from elsewhere are concerned about the choice we will make, partly because it will have repercussions on them and partly because we are their blood brothers and they are truly concerned with our welfare. There is a cosmic law against interfering in the affairs of others, so they are not allowed to help us directly even though they could easily do so. We must make our own choice of our own free will. Present trends indicate a series of events, which may require the help of these people, and they stand by ready and willing to render that help. In fact, they have already helped us a great deal, along the lines that do not interfere with our freedom of choice. In time, when certain events have transpired, and we are so oriented that we can accept these people from elsewhere, they will meet us freely on common ground of mutual understanding and trust. We will be able to learn from them and bring about the Golden Age all men everywhere desire deep within their hearts.
]]>The first relationship is Religion, which is the relationship of a being to its Creator. Here we have a hodge-podge of superstition dressed up in pageantry giving lip service to something in which very few people actually believe, and practically no one knows anything about. Every great religion says “Love Thy God” but how many understand what this means? We think we know family love, love of country, love of things, but do we know love of God?
Love thy God as Thyself! This is something a bit nearer to our understanding because we are all pretty selfish creatures, but again do we really know what it means? Do those of us who abuse our bodies and minds with the many and varied malpractices have any understanding of what it means to love ourselves.
Love Thy God with all Thy Heart, with all Thy Soul, and with all Thy Mind! Here again we are urged to a course of definite action which is spelled out rather clearly, and again we do little or nothing about it. We must learn to know our hearts, our souls and our minds: to know their capacity and then to use this capacity. There is a tremendous potential here if we but understand it.
The Hierarchy is the relationship of a Being to Others not of its kind. In this universe we know very little about the Hierarchy beyond the few other living things which share this planet with us, and which we regard with distain as being of little or no consequence. We have little knowledge of the vast realms of beings of higher evolution than ourselves, and when we do experience a little impact from them, we ignore and suppress it and hope it will go away because it embarrasses us. There are very few people on this earth who do not feel that somehow they are the Acme of Creation and there are none greater, except possibly a vague and nebulous Deity with which we have little or nothing in common. And yet, knowledge of the Hierarchy obviously is necessary if we are to progress in it; for we are part of it whether we realize it or not. Civilization is the relationship of beings with others of the same kind. This is something about which we know a little, but don’t do very much. We have a civilization of sorts but it isn’t very good, not nearly as good as the civilization developed by the Ants and the Bees. We have a general idea of what civilization should be and we all have dreams of Utopia, but we have not yet mastered even the basic principles upon which a successful civilization must be based.
The many ideologies and “isms” are all attempts to develop a more satisfactory civilization and each much be regarded as a stepping-stone leading towards the ultimate. As long as there is disagreement about how civilization should be set up, just that long will it continue to evolve. When people on this planet are satisfied with their civilization it will crystallize, as has the civilization of the Ants and Bees, and further evolvement will rest entirely with the individuals. Because of the basic restless nature of our branch of mankind we will probably not settle for a civilization pattern in the near future, and our ultimate civilization will bear little resemblance to what we have now. But the important thing is to recognize that what we have isn’t very good, and the ultimate is still far off, and we should work towards it.
Science is the relationship of a Being to the physical world in which it exists. We have evolved a science of sorts by observing Nature and guessing at the causes of the phenomena, which we observe. When we have guessed a plausible explanation we test it by asking Nature a few experimental questions and then fitting the answers into our hypothesis. If they can be made to fit we assume that our original guess was right and we proceed on to the next guess. By following this method we have built up a most magnificent concept of this universe that we live in, all beautifully supported by mathematical analyses, and almost entirely self-consistent.
Although it is not generally admitted in scientific circles, there is a prime Cause for this universe, called the Creator, and this universe was established from Nothing-At-All. What we observe is the end product of this creation, or at least that stage of it which involves us. What we do not see is the mechanism by which this all came about and so long as we insist on inspecting it from our limited point of view we are not likely to find out very much about its inherent structure. However, if we follow the path trodden by the Creator and start as he did, from Nothing-At-All and follow up on the logical sequences, FROM THE BOTTOM UP, checking with Nature by experiment every so often we can get quite a different view of this universe which is ever so much simpler and probably much more accurate than that of our conventional science. By definition Science is the relationship of the Being with the physical world in which it exists, so it is fairly obvious that the viewpoint should be that of the Being, i.e. an emanation of the Creator following the path set by the Creator.
The relationship of the Being to the physical vehicle, which it occupies, is the Tallus, and this is the area where understanding is the most conspicuous by its absence. Unfortunately, many, many people do not even recognize that there is such a relationship, believing that the physical vehicle IS the Being, in spite of the vast amount of evidence which is apparent to all that the Being is quite apart, though intimately associated with the physical vehicle. The subtraction of limbs or organs does not detract from a Being and the retirement of a Being from its physical vehicle is not necessarily related too closely with such subtractions. The transcendental nature of Awareness and impossibility of localizing it within the physical structure indicates that it is something separate.
We are accustomed to living in our physical bodies and to us it feels “normal” and any deviation from this condition results in feeling and sensations, which are unique. If our thresholds are depressed as in sleep or under anesthetic we can alter the relationship of our Beings to our vehicles without undue disturbance, but on the other hand, if out thresholds are raised any such alteration becomes more apparent. These are the Tallic sensations or experiences, and are an essential part of our experience here. Drugs, excitement and many other stimuli simultaneously raise our thresholds and allow alteration of the Tallus relationship. The group of experiences involving sex, birth, death, and mediumship all involves closely related physical sensations caused by the partial (or complete) withdrawal of the Being from the physical vehicle, and some rearrangement in relation thereto.
These then are the five relationships, which make up the experience of the Being in the physical environment. They are part and parcel of our lives and their understanding is an essential part of our evolvement. We have but a scanty appreciation of these relationships, and even to many they do not exist except as philosophies or superstitions. However, we have only to look at what little is apparent of our Brothers from Elsewhere to appreciate the results of Better understanding of these basic relationships; and they tell us that they too, have a long way to go!
