As a Presidential UFO researcher I have been following the how the most powerful man in the world has dealt with the most highly classified secret of the last century- the UFO mystery.
In this regard I have tracked Presidential phone calls, visits with people who have been tied into the UFO mystery, replies to UFO queries from the media of the public, and meetings in the White House that might have involved the subject of UFOs.
Most of this work has brought few results. At times the lack of apparent involvement has led me think the President might not be involved at all.
President Truman is a prime example. Although he was in office at the time of the rumored Roswell UFO crash, a close review of all the presidential schedules shows very little was being done by the President that would tie him into the story. There have been promising leads such as when it was rumored there was film of him attending the alien autopsy that occurred just following the crash. The lead turned out to be without substance like many of the other leads that came forward.
From time to time, however, one gets lucky. Little stories told many years later turned out to be quite revealing.
Consider for example, a small inconspicuous story that was told to a UFO Group in Manatee, Florida by a man named Major Ben Games, Ph.D. Games is the author of the book "Adventures of Benny Bob." He also wrote "Beyond" - a science fiction story about Roswell, New Mexico and the astronauts from Zoran.
Games story is as follows - for a six month period in 1947 he was the personal
pilot for General Laurence C. Craigie (picture on right) who was USAF director of research and development. Craigie was also the man who later in 1949 authorized the flying saucer program called Project Sign designed "to collect, collate, evaluate and distribute to interested government agencies and contractors all information concerning sightings and phenomena in the atmosphere which can be construed to be of concern to the national security."
As Games tells the story he flew General Craigie from Bolling Field in Washington D.C. to the Army Air Base in Roswell for an overnight stay in July 1947 right after the rumored flying saucer crash. Games claimed that Craigie had been dispatched by then-Deputy Chief of Air Staff for Research and Development Gen. Curtis LeMay. Games was not involved in whatever Craigie did while in Roswell. He was left to cool his heels in the Officer's Mess.
Then, immediately after the trip into Roswell, Games stated that Craigie met with President Truman and was sworn to secrecy. There was, however, according to Games, "never any conspiracy to cover anything up."
The story to the average reader would mean nothing. To someone like me who has tried to chase down any possible connection between President Truman and UFOs, the story ran a bell in the back of my mind. It seemed to be a story I had heard before.
Even though I knew what the answer would be, I ran to check the Presidential record as to meetings between Truman and Craigie. As expected no meeting, letters, or phone calls between the two in July 1947. There was also no mention of Craigie in Truman's person Diary for July 1947. Ryan Wood at majecticdocuments.com did find a picture of Craigie (above - Craigie at far left in picture) in February 1948 sitting on the board of the Joint Research and Development Board with Vannevar Bush, who was described by one Top Secret Canadian government document as being the man running the flying saucer investigation.
The only contact recorded between Truman and General Craigie in the official calendar was not until December 17, 1947 when Craigie was in attendance at a function where President Truman presented the Collier Trophy to Lewis A. Rodert, Chief of the Flight Research Section at the Cleveland Laboratory of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
The lack of contacts between President Truman and many of the key Roswell players is not all that uncommon. The presidential record for example shows no contact between the president and General Roger Ramey, who came up with the weather balloon explanation put out by the Air Force to explain the Roswell crash. In an interview with Major George Filer Ramey widow stated "that she and her husband had been visited by Truman on several occasions. She indicated that they were quite friendly."
Craigie was not the only witness to events in Roswell that was sworn to secrecy by President Truman about what he had seen. Edwin Easley at
Provost Marshall was in charge of security and clean-up at the Roswell UFO crash site. He like Craigie refused to talk about what he had seen, telling Kevin Randle, "I can't talk about it, I was sworn to secrecy." Interestingly, like Craigie Easley (picture on right) claimed his silence came because of a deal he made with President Truman.
During an interview of the Larry King show in July 2003 Easley's daughter Nancy Johnson stated "I discovered that an incident had occurred that he had been part of, when we asked him about it, he always told us that he had promised President Truman that he would not discuss it. And he stuck with that up until the end -- until almost the very end."
Unlike Craigie who never talked Easley spoke on his deathbed about what he has seen. After repeated questions from his two daughters about what he had witnessed in Roswell so many years ago Easley finally responded with one word, "creatures."
A check of the Presidential record also shows no record of any conversation, letter, or phone call between Easley and President Truman.
Yet Easley like Craigie claimed that they had met with President Truman, and after that meeting promised never to discuss what they had witnessed in Roswell in July 1947.
The fact that the President was involved in talking to Roswell witnesses is significant, because the President is an important and busy guy. He never would have been involved in Roswell if the object had been a weather balloon, mogul balloon or any of the other explanation put forward by the USAF.
