Prominent Ufologist Lou Farish Dies PDF Print E-mail
Written by Grant Cameron

It is a sad day in Ufology as Lou Farish has passed away. Lou gave me my first chance to lecture in the United States at the Ozark UFO Conference which he founded and ran for many years. He asked me to lecture on Wilbert Smith who ran the Canadian flying saucer investigation from 1950-1954. This was a story Lou was very interested in along with many of the contactee stories from the 1950s that so many researchers have rejected.

I am indebted to Lou and he will be in my memory as a man on a search for the truthwho was also a trusted friend. Many who knew Lou will agree.

Here is the announcement made by Lou's friend Jerry Blackburn.

Thanks Lou. Rest in Peace.

Friends of Lou,

I'm sorry to have to tell you that Lou died of cancer this afternoon at 4:55 PM CST in Morrilton, Arkansas at the River Chase Rehabilitation and Care Center where he had been under hospice care since early September.  He died peacefully, was not in pain, and was surrounded by a small group of friends.  A memorial service is tentatively planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 4, at the Harris Funeral Home in Morrilton, AR.  Confirmation of the date and time will be in an obituary to be posted in a day or two on the Harris Funeral Home website at www.harrisfuneralhomes.net.  If I can provide additional information, please let me know.

If you cannot attend Lou's memorial service, but would like to send me a short statement to be read at the service about how you knew and/or will remember Lou, I will be glad to do that for you.  We may also include these statements in a program to remember Lou this April at the Ozark UFO Conference in Eureka Springs.  Also, if you have any favorite photos of Lou that we can use in the service, I would appreciate it if you would scan or photograph them and send them to me, and especially any early photos from the 70s and 80s.

Since Lou did not have a wife, children or siblings, he left his estate, including 80 acres of land, to a trust to be used to encourage UFO research and education through awards, fellowships and mini-grants over the next several years.

Lou was one of the most interesting people I ever met, and like many of you, I thought of him as one of my best friends.  He was one of a kind, and will be greatly missed, both as a person and for his many contributions to ufology.  His circle of friends goes far beyond the e-mail list I'm sending this message to.  If you have email addresses for others who knew and cared about Lou, please forward this message on to them.

Jerry Blackburn

Key Witness throws Area 51 Author Under the Bus Again ! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Grant Cameron
Sunday, 15 January 2012 19:20

Thank you to Giuliano Marinkovic for alerting me to this story.

Those who have read investigative reporter Annie Jacobsen’s New York Times best seller book “Area 51” will be aware of two key points

  • The key source in the Area 51 book was TD Barnes, formally a special projects engineer at Area 51. As well as his years of experience working at Area 51 Barnes serves as President of the Roadrunners Association set up to preserve the history of the Area 51 development of the U-2, A-12 and YF-12 aircraft during the Cold War.
  • Of all the claims made in the book, the most dramatic was without a doubt the disclosure that Jacobsen received from an unnamed senior EG&G engineer who had been at Area 51 since the beginning. That engineer, now identified as Al O’Donnell, claimed that the 1947 Roswell UFO crash was actually a saucer built by the Soviets using technology they had obtained from German engineers at the end of World War II. Inside the aircraft they had placed genetically engineered deformed human children made to look like aliens. Most dramatically, O’Donnell claimed that the reason it had been covered up is the United States government was doing the same illegal medical experiments on its citizens.

Originally TD Barnes had nothing but glowing reviews for Jacobsen. He told Popular Mechanics, "We were very, very happy with what she was doing. She did a great job of researching. She did everything a good journalist would do."[1]

As Jacobson book went viral with the media, those who she had quoted in the book, including TD Barnes, started to criticize the book. Now TD Barnes has taken another shot at the credibility of the information found in the Area 51 book.

In a January 2012 e-mail to Andre Skandras, Barnes again threw Jacobsen and her Roswell story under the bus.  Barnes latest comment came in reply to a question about statements that have been made in the past by former Lockheed's Skunk Works directors Kelly Johnson and Ben Rich to other interested parties on the subject of UFOs. Barnes told Skandras,

Could it have been a circumstance like Al O'Donnell telling Annie Jacobsen a wild story about it being a Russian craft that landed at Roswell, and that it had genetically altered children aboard? Furthermore, he allegedly claimed that he and four others did the same thing at Area 51 as Stalin did with the children on his Roswell saucer. Al is a highly respected nuclear engineer well advanced in age. He admitted that Annie pestered him for 2 years to give her something juicy for her book and that he finally did so to shut her up. She published it and when he recanted, she continued her claim. She says that because he said what he did, that as a reporter she has to stick by it even it is untrue.[2]

Despite the recanting by her key source on the story of the Roswell crash which has helped make her and her publisher rich, and criticism by Barnes and others quoted in Area 51, Jacobsen continues to stand by her story. Sadly others who have not reviewed the Roswell crash evidence also continue to promote her new explanation for the 1947 crash.

In 1987 at the United Nations President Ronald Reagan stood up and talked about how an alien invasion could help bring world peace. Reagan had a great interest in UFOs.

Now the idea of the alien invasion is back - this time it is proposed in fixing the ailing U.S. economy.

This is worth a look
